Why I will #SeeYouInPhilly

This article was initially written by John Laurits on his blog.  I wanted to share it here because not all of my followers here are my followers on Facebook, Twitter or Google+.

Greetings, my sisters, brothers, & others

Since the first article on the delegate math, I’ve (mostly) kept my mouth shut about the coming marches & demonstrations in Philadelphia & the rest of the nation (& the world) — this is because I felt that it was of the utmost importance for the people to keep focused on winning as many votes as the rigged system would allow.

Now — the primary season is all but over & I’d like to talk about the next phase of our political revolution — massive demonstrations.

Why I’ll #SeeYouInPhilly

Here’s the truth, as I see it — in late 2015, democratic party registrations reached a low tide, with a mere 29% of registered voters (and forget the GOP at a pitiful 26%). Think about it — 26% +29% = 55% — that means that barely over half of registered voters’ interests overlap with the 2 state-sanctioned parties combined!

Now, let’s be honest, friends — there are only 2 parties. For as long as we’ve been alive, there have only been 2. I know, I know, in theory, there “could” be another but “could” never quite works out, does it? Well, “could” isn’t good enough for me, anymore — so, I’ll #SeeYouInPhilly in July.

Using purposeful, systematic disadvantages & a dishonest, corporately-funded media, the establishment has bullied voters into a 2-party system & repressed all opposition — but it doesn’t have to be that way, because…

And they’re afraid.

With a massive 42% of eligible voters, independents easily outweigh the 2 existing parties. If we, the people, realize that — then, it’s game-over for the establishment and they know it. Their candidate can barely get half of the votes in their own party. Half of 29% is 14.5— that’s 14.5% of eligible US voters.voter graph

I’ll #SeeYouInPhilly because the DNC thinks that ½ of independents owe their vote to a candidate that 14.5% of voters & democratic party-insiders chose. I’ll #SeeYouInPhilly because I intend to let the “democratic” partyknow that that’s not how democracyworks.

That’s why they are doing everything in their power right now to crush our movement — from propaganda & media-manipulation to voter-registration purges & outright repression. I’ll #SeeYouInPhilly because it’s the only way that the establishment willlisten.

They won’t hand the power over to the people just because we ask nicely.
They won’t hand the power over to the people just because we ran a damn-fine campaign, in a rigged system, against incredible odds.
They won’t hand the power over to the people — unless we make them.

Just ask Sojourner Truth or Mahatma Gandhi. Ask Martin Luther King.
It has never been any other way.

Why I want to
#SeeYouInPhilly, too

My friends, I believe that the system is broken

I believe that it’s wrong to stop half of the voters from voting to choose the twopublicly-funded party’s nominees. It’s wrong to simply move on, when election after election after election is fraught with “irregularities,” registration-purges, & corruption. It’s wrong to hold elections beneath the deceptive fog & distorting influence of a completely unregulated corporate-media (which donates millions to one of the candidates) and, while we’re on the subject, it’swrong to conduct elections directly funded by anti-democratic special-interest groups & businesses!

And — if you also think that all of this is wrong — I’d like to invite you to join me for a party in Philadelphia, starting on July 24th….

Sanderistas, Berners, #BernieOrBust-ers, #NeverTrump-ers, conservatives-of-conscience, Socialists, Green-Party-ers, & anyone else!

If your voice was cut silent by the “democratic” party’s despicable voter-suppression tactics —
I want to #SeeYouInPhilly
If your ballot wasn’t counted or if you were given a provisional or affidavit ballot that was never counted —
I want to #SeeYouInPhilly
If you watched as poll-stations in your area closed up, just before the“election”
I want to #SeeYouInPhilly
If you’re a part of the independent-voter majority who has no voice in the“democratic” party —
I want to #SeeYouInPhilly
If you’re in the half of the “democratic” party
that is being bullied into voting against your conscience
I want to #SeeYouInPhilly
If you’re a human-being — a human-being who feels voiceless, who feelssilenced, who feels powerless to change the world around you — you’re not.

We Can Still Prevail

Just like the Sand-Man always says — this movement isn’t about him — it’s about usIn a very real way, We are Bernie. And if we can manage to pull these kinds of crowds for a single state’s election…

…then imagine the kind of crowd that we could pull off for sometingnational — and that’s where you come in.

Consider This an Invitation

I promise to write to you all soon, with all of the details that you might need about these demonstrations — but I must away now! There is a lot of work to be done & there will be many different groups that are coming together for the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia. There will be marches in Philly, marches from DC to Philly, & many different demonstrations, I’m sure — and, even if you can’t make it to Philadelphia, don’t worry! There will also be solidarity-marches in pretty much every city on the face of the planet — try searching for “March for Bernie USA” or #March4BernieUSA & I’m sure that you’ll find something! (Email me, if you’re interested in helping to organize things!)

I look forward to finally meeting many of you, face-to-face — in the meantime, clear your schedules, if you can…

Now is the time — it is in our hands, my friends! I told you that we’d have to fight for it, remember?

In solidarity,
John Laurits #SeeYouInPhilly
